Section 20-2 -- Bodies

Original dimensions of all bodies must remain as manufactured, except for changes which may be necessary for rear tire clearance. No lowering of body or frame. In the interest of safety and handling characteristics, a non-adjustable spoiler not exceeding 1 1/2 inches in height may be attached to rear deck lid. An approved spoiler may be mounted to front underside of cars, but 6 1/2 inch minimum ground clearance must be maintained and the spoiler cannot extend outside of the lower fender contour at the mounting position and the maximum width in all cases shall be limited to the car's front wheel tread width center line. Spoilers must be mounted below and to rear of the front bumper, minimum of 3 inch set back from lower bumper edge, in a manner which does not change the original frontal appearance. All spoilers must be approved by NASCAR before installation.

a. All cars must have complete bodies, hoods, fenders and bumpers and grilles in top quality condition. No aluminum, light alloys or fiberglass will be permitted as substitutes for steel for any parts of the bodies or bumpers. No die cast grilles permitted. Aluminum and fiberglass trim parts may be approved as replacement parts for die cast parts, but must be approved by the NASCAR Technical Director.

b. Cars must be neat appearing. Head lining and door trim pads must be removed and top panel must be painted . Inside door panel and quarter panels must remain standard, except for approved alterations for roll bar installation. Doors and quarter panels must be covered with aluminum.

c. Floors must be complete and in standard position except for tire inspection; no funnels or air ducts. Engine firewall must remain standard. Spare tire well may be removed but hole must be covered with metal and welded. Cars must weigh no less than 3,900 pounds. Any weight added to the car must be located within the body shell.

d. Windshields and rear glass must be installed in their original standard positions and standard windshield and rear glass molding must be used and also installed in standard position. Chrome trim or molding must be bolted or pop riveted in a safe and workmanlike manner. Windshield Safety Clips 3" x 1" x 1/8" must be installed. Three clips bolted to top of car and extending over edge of windshield. Two clips will be bolted to the cowl and extend over bottom edge of windshield. Bottom clips must be visable [sic - visible]. Clips must be spaced a minimum of 12" apart. Rear window must be secured with 2 steel straps not less than 1/8" x 1" bolted to roof panel with 5/16" bolts.

e. All doors must be fastened in an approved manner. Steel straps 1/8" x 3" must be welded from the body to the roll bars. Two straps to be welded on front side at hinge locations. Two straps to be welded on the rear side of the door (one) top and (one) bottom. Steel strap 1/8" x 3" must then be welded to the doors so as to match with the previously welded straps and straps bolted with 3/8 inch bolts. Door handles must be removed and the holes covered with a piece of aluminum only.

f. No streamlining allowed, such as headlights, radiator grilles, top of windshields or under pans. Cars must remain standard in appearance.

g. Fenders may not be cut or altered except for wheel or tire clearance which must be approved by NASCAR technical inspector.

h. Hoods must remain in original locked position and closed. Hoods must have original springs and hinges so as to hold up hood when open. All hoods must be locked with 3 pins in hood with attching [sic - attaching] cables--one center and left and right. (See Diagram rear pages of Rule Book.) i. Rear deck lids must have operating original type hinges. Deck lids must be equipped with a self-holding device so as to keep lid up when open. Deck lids must be fastened with 2 pins--one on each side.

j. Any car which fails to meet body specifications may be required to carry penalty spoiler.
