1974 NASCAR International Stock Car Racing Rule Book
Section 17 -- Prize Money

1. All NASCAR races shall be contested for a guaranteed finishing position purse as per the entry blank or the pay-off schedule.

2. Prize money shall be based on the track size, location, seating capacity, attendance and type of racemeet [sic].

3. NASCAR members agree to abide by decisions of NASCAR in establishing amount of prize money for each track.

4. Prize money in all race competitions shall be payable to the driver, and each driver will be solely responsible for the settlement with his car owner. Prize money shall be distributed by the NASCAR officials assigned to the event.

5. All undistributed prize money shall be forwarded to NASCAR Headquarters for distribution.

6. NASCAR competitors are entitled to see entry blank, program of events and prize money distribution before any racemeet[sic] or contest.

7. NASCAR members who compete in racemeet [sic] or contest are entitled to inspect completed copy of official pay-off for racemeet.[sic]

8. In the event of a protest, filed in accordance with Section 15 of these Rules, prize monies shall be forwarded to NASCAR Headquarters, accompanied by written statements from those involved. After a decision on the protest, a copy of the decision will be mailed to the parties involved in the protest and once the time for filing an appeal thereon has expired, the prize monies will be forwarded to the proper recipients in accordance with the decision in the absence of an appeal.

9. Promoter may not revise purse downward without previous notice and approval of the Chief Steward. When races are held on regular schedule, such as weekly or twice weekly, all contestants must be notified of any downward revision of prize money not later than pay-off time of previous racemeet[sic].
