1974 NASCAR International Stock Car Racing Rule Book
Late Model Sportsman Division
Section 20B-1 -- Competing Models

(With variations for Super-Speedways and Road Courses.)

Open to American automobiles provided they comply with and adhere to, specifications as outlined for this division.

a. NASCAR Late Model Sportsman races are open to steel bodied 1964 through 1972 models of American-made passenger car production sedans.

Category 1 -- Standard size cars.

Limited to cars with a minimum of 119-inch wheelbase, a maximum engine size of 433 cubic inches piston displacement.

Category 2 -- Intermediate size cars.

Limited to cars with a minimum of 112-inch wheelbase and less than 119-inch wheelbase, a maximum engine size of 433 cubic inches piston displacement.

NOTE: 1971 through 1972 Mercury Cougar is not classified as an intermediate size car.

NOTE: 1971 through 1972 Intermediate size cars must compete with a minimum wheelbase of no less than 115-inches.

NOTE: Cars that previously competed in the Grand National Division will be permitted to run the minimum wheelbase that was allowed in the Grand National Division races. This rule also applies to weekly races in the Late Model Sportsman Division.

Category 3 -- Selected Models.

Limited to cars with a minimum of 111-inch AMA listed wheelbase, a maximum engine size of 433 cubic inches piston displacement, however these approved cars must maintain a wheelbase of no less than 112-inches at all times. In order to maintain the 112-inch minimum wheelbase, rear axle assembly must be moved toward rear of frame. Listed below are the only selected models approved for competition.

The following cars have been classified in Category 3 --

CHEVROLET -- 1968 through 1972 -- Chevy II and Nova series.

DODGE -- 1967 through 1970 -- Dodge Dart.

1971 through 1972 -- Dodge Dart Swinger

Model LL23 and LH23.

MERCURY -- 1967 through 1972 -- Cougar.

PLYMOUTH -- 1972 -- Scamp Model VH23.

PONTIAC -- 1971 through 1972 -- Ventura II series.

NOTE: The models found in Category 3 -- will only be permitted to compete on race tracks of less than one mile in length.

b. A minimum weight requirement of 9.4 pounds per cubic inch piston displacement with gas, oil and water (without driver). Cars weighing less than 3,300 pounds, with gas, oil and water (without driver) not eligible. No Convertibles, station wagons or pickups allowed.

NOTE: When cars are weighed after a race, only water, oil and gas may be added. Wheels and tires cannot be changed, but an amount equal to one (1) per cent of the gross weight will be added for loss in weight due to tire wear and no car will be required to carry a maximum weight of more than 3,800 pounds.
