1974 NASCAR International Stock Car Racing Rule Book Late Model Sportsman Division Section 20B-25 -- Steering

a. Tie rods, drag links and component parts must be heavy duty.

b. Interchangeable pitman arms may be used.

c. Center-top of steering post must be padded with at least two inches of resilient material.

d. Racing type steering wheels allowed if approved by NASCAR.

e. The use of universal joints in steering shaft not permitted.
